record music from tv

i want to record music playing on my tv to my mac .can this be done without alot of trouble.i know i can record music off internet thats playing on the mac but i want to record the oldies channel im getting through direct tv.

You'll need a connection scheme (hardware) and software by which to capture the audio stream.

Software-wise, I'd suggest Audio Hijack Pro.

You didn't tell us what kind of OUTPUTS the tv has, and what kind of INPUTS the Mac has. That will make a difference.
