Record stereo input via audio port?

I have connected a 3.5mm stereo jack to my audio port on my 2020 mba. It's only recording the left channel though.
How do i get it to record stereo, both channels?

It should work. Try using a different cable.

The "headphone" jack on an MBA, like virtually all devices with a single jack, supports stereo headphone audio out and mono microphone in. There is no way to input stereo through that jack.

With an appropriate cable/adapter it is possible to record both the left and right channels of a source but the recording will be mono. To import stereo you need an external DAC that connects to a USB port.

The cheapest way in is to use something like the Behringer UPHONO UFO202 USB Audio Interface. That one has RCA connectors for stereo INs and OUTs so you'd have to deal with that.
