Recording and Playing audio through modem port

Are there any applications for OS X or OS 9 that will allow me to play and record sound through the modem port?

Even a combination of different apps would be nice.. i heard you can do this but nobody can tell me how.

The modem port? The little telephone jack port? I've never heard of modems having anything to do with audio playback or recording... Do you mean a USB or Firewire port?

I want to record telephone calls and also play sounds during those phone calls

well i've seen telephone apps before, but not for OS X... your best bet is to try and find a commercial answering machine program, it should have a phone built in, and may have the playback capability...

if someone makes such a program... you're not the first person to ask about it, i couldn't find anything then either...
