Any thoughts on this below???? Please Help

Equipment:
-DA-20 Tascam DAT Deck
-SPDIF Cable
-M-Audio Firewire Solo interface (Ver. 1.8.1)
-iMac G4 computer (10.4.8) 1GHz, 512MB, 80 GB

Software that I am trying to use (Mainly the Sound Studio 2.2.4):
-Garage Band
-Sound Studio 2.2.4
-Ableton Live 4 Light

What I am trying to accomplish:

-record from my DAT to my iMac so that I can back up my music onto external Hard Drives
-recording real-time from the DAT to the iMac in 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz
-ability to resample from 44.1 to 48 or reverse
-ability to cut and paste tracks
-ability to edit .shn, .flac and .wav files

Problems:
-I get a clicking noise (Buzz/Noise) when I record with any of these software programs.

What has worked:
-I have used the DA-20 to the Firewire Solo then into a Dell Laptop while recording with Sound Forge. No problems. I have just acquired this iMac. It is used.

Questions:
-is there software that I should be using?
-is the problem that I am using software that is not current or fully featured?
-is there something wrong with the Firewire Solo?
-could this problem be the iMac?

ANY thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
