Recording Streaming Video with VLC

Ok, so I've got this file that allows me to stream video and watch it with the VLC program, however, just like TV, I'm not always available to watch the shows while they're on. So I'm wondering if there's a way to essentially set up my computer to work like a PVR, recording a show while it's playing through VLC so I can watch it later. Anyone know of anything that would let me do that?

Ok, clearly a misunderstanding here, since anyone can use Google. Let me rephrase that as, can anyone recommend any software for recording live steams through VLC?
