Hi, I know this isn't the right forum but iono where to do it. Is there a way I can access a laptop drive's contents from the harddrive via USB to USB (similar to Macs' Firewire-firewire) to recover the harddrive? An Asus laptop i'm using doesn't get into Vista and I tried Safe mode but it doesn't work.. so any help would be great :D

I have never seen a non-Mac with anything like Target Mode, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I just haven't run across one.

IMHO your bet bet on most laptops is to remove the drive and use a USB to SATA (or PATA if it's old enough) adapter to access the contents of the drive.

+1, This works very well. I have retrieved many supposedly dead PC 2.5" drives by doing the above and connecting the enclosure to my Mac. Then is just a simple matter of copying the files they want to keep from the old drive to my mac saving to alternative storage.

Cheers,
