Hi everyone,

Long time reader. First time poster. I know how good the community here is so I have no doubt I am in good hands. I look forward to posting more in the future.

I leant my 17 inch unibody MacBook Pro (that originally launched with Snow Leopard) to my buddy. It had a BTO 500GB 7200RPM hard drive. My buddy finished with the computer and tried to erase his files. Little did he know that he formatted the entire drive as well as the external drive I had leant him. The problem is that both drives had important family photos and business documents on them.

I do not know how he formatted it (and neither does he). I plugged the external hard drive into my Windows computer and (even though it did not show up in File Explorer) DMDE was able to recover most of the files.

The problem lies with the 2.5 inch hard drive that was in the Mac. I pulled the drive out and put it into a 3.5 inch enclosure with a separate file system so that it can run. Again File Explorer does not show the drive. However, Windows Disk Manager does show the drive and its unallocated space. It did the same for the external hard drive.

Unfortunately, DMDE does not work on a drive that was HFS+ Journaled like my drive was. Does anyone know a good Windows program I could use like DMDE to retrieve my files on the Max's drive? I prefer it to be free but it can be paid as long as I can try it to make sure I can retrieve some files before paying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. If you need any additional info please ask.
