I have some very important data i ver foolishly deleted!

I had an Apple iMac which had time machine back ups on an external HD.

I sold the iMac and kept the HD.

Anyway bought a new MBP and in my excitement i deleted the external HD content so it was a clean wipe and used it for backups of my new machine.

There was some files i NEEDED from the old back ups :(

Are they lost forever or can i get them back?

Depending how much data has been written to the drive since you deleted the files in question, some files may be retrievable. But the chances of recovering any data is still pretty slim.

Its an 1TB Drive and only 80GB has been written to it since the delete

Stop writing to the drive and give Data Rescue a spin. Be prepared for a long wait though.

i turned off all backups and data rescue is now 25% through but been going 3 hours so far 11 to go apparently!
