I have found hundreds of posts about reading deleted texts in the iphone backup file beginning with the name: "3d0d..." It doesn't seem to work with the new IOS 4 backup. Here is what I did:

Deliberately delete some text messages on iphone
Plugged iphone in to Mac, opened itunes and backed up (DID NOT SYNC)
unplugged iphone and browsed the "3d0d" file using text edit--deleted text was NOT there!
Used iphonebackup extractor - browsed sms.db .... still deleted text did not show up BUT: less text was visible in sms.db than when reading the file in text edit.

Is there a different file for deleted text in the new backup? Also I noticed that the new IOS 4 backup files do not have file extensions.
