Recover erased free disk space

Hi,

I am having a problem with my disk space as I recently, by mistake, used the erase free disk space feature in Disk Utility, "loosing" in the process around 30 gb.

Is there a way to reverse this process and reclaim the lost free disk space (without having to backup all the data and restore the entire system? I've checked a lot of forums but wasn't able to find a solution

Look at posts 3 and 4 in this thread and I think it will help you.

I'm guessing you interrupted the erase free space operation? What erase free space does is file the disk with spare bundle files then delete them when it is done. If you stop midway it leave behind the files. The post I linked shows where they are so you can delete them.
