I have an external hard drive that is formatted with HFS+ that was attached to my Macbook.

Unfortuntely the power supply for the external hard drive has died out.

I was able to open and put the hard drive into my Windows XP computer.

Windows XP detects the drive, but no drive is displayed.

I have MacDrive installed, so I suspect the partition is corrupted.

How can I repair the HFS+ partition in Windows XP?

Do you have MacDrive 7? If you do, you're in luck - it includes a utility designed for this very purpose.

i'm having this exact same problem right now
macdrive doesn't see my external drive that is in HFSJ nor my internal OSX partition

I tried it MacDrive doesn't detect the drive.

Have you tried Disk Manager from XP? Usually Disk Manager will detect a disk even if it's formatted to a file system it can't recognize. You may be able to partition and format the disk that way. If not, see if you can get hold of a copy of Partition Magic (commercial software from Symantec) or you might try the free Linux utility "GParted". Both should work.

Regards.

disk manager claims that external drive is unallocated

partition magic gives me some error about filetype, I assume that it has problems with HFSJ

i have the same kinda problem

i had my 500gb wd drive formatted to HFS+ FILE SYSTEM on my xp os, it came as everytime i started my pc the drive always like installed like " found a generic drive" is installed and ready to use but recently it stopped saying that and now i am unable to see my macdrive partitioned 500gb drive :S i had macdrive installed that is how i read and write stuff to it but now it says unpartitioned drive :S i dont want to partition it whole again, i mean i had well worth over 400gb data on it.. please someone help needed urgent here also i tried uninstalling the drive and then restarted my pc it said installed drive but still nothing :S i cant see my macdrive in my computer...

There is a free Java based program called HFS Explorer, it may be able to help.

hmm, so what ur trying to say is that i use that and backup stuff from my drive and then re-partition it :( any other way :S i mean it was working a ok before wat made this go haywire all of a sudden !

hmm, i just hope it isn't corrupted because that 500gb held more than 400gb of data :S it says unpartitioned, lets see if the hfs explorer finds something :S

Data Rescue and Photorec can recover the data.

Testdisk may be able to repair the partition (if you have it on a live CD.)

ok so the problem is that the drive appears to somehow became unpartitioned :S and i dont want to partition it since its saying if u partition it all data on the drive will be erased !

the file system before was hfs+, so what to do :( i tried hfs explorer nothing happened, gonna try testdisk my last option :(

btw what do u mean by "if i have it on a live cd" ?
