This is my first post, thanks in advance for your patience and expertise. I'm in a bit of a nervous mood right now as my wife just informed me that she restored a backup to her phone when she was really meaning to backup her phone (yeah, I know). It appears many photos are gone and the apps are showing up with little waiting bars on them.
Here's what I know:
- She launched iTunes with the intent of backing up the phone
- She said that it was taking forever to backup the apps so she disconnected and restarted. I don't know exactly what she restarted but to me it sounds like a backup was being done and she some how aborted it.
- She restored the phone from a backup dated October 30, 2012
- Now all the photos are gone which is all we care about. We have a 3 & 2 year old (lots of memories).
- We share an iTunes login.
- I NEVER use iCloud but she was getting a prompt that iCloud was full. I'm thinking she was syncing to iCloud which might end up being a big stash of what we are trying to recover.
So now I am trying to understand what my options are for trying to recover the photos from the phone. I know with Linux or Windows you can scan a drive and restore files that have not been overwritten. I am hoping that between iCloud and scanning the drive of the phone we can recover a significant amount of these memories (photos and videos).
I read somewhere about connecting via DFU Mode and then scanning the drive. Of course there are differences of opinion and I'm wondering if you all think that I should continue researching the DFU mode scanning of the drive. Have any pointers or tips for someone who is looking to get files from the iPhone's drive?
Any thoughts on a tool like Dr.Phone:

I don't mind paying if it works.
Lastly, how do I go about seeing what's contained in our iCloud account? What happens when I login from her phone to iCloud? Will it restore the photos or will it delete them since the current phone appears not to have them?
Thanks a million in advanced!
Kind Regards,
Andy
