recover system through thunderbolt to ethernet adapter

Hi there,
I have a MBA 2011 with a defect wifi.
Is it possible to reset/recover my mba by using the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter to connect to the internet or does the adapter needs a driver?

I have recovered mine through the thunderbolt NIC without any problems
