Recovering deleted emails

I have a little problem...I had an email account set up on my Mac. It was receiving and sending emails, but then I removed the account because I lost access to that email account. Deleting the account removed the emails.

Anyway to get the emails that were on that account? Are they anywhere deep inside the Mac?

Do you have a TimeMachine backup?

I'm thinking that unless you have a backup of these somewhere "on disk", they're gone.

Particularly so if you have no access to the account from which they came, or if that account has been "wiped out" by the original email provider, as well.
