iPod recovering files from broken HD

As stupid as i was last semester i did all of my work off of my ipod and saved nothing to my computer. now my ipods HD is broken and all of my work for my portfolio sophomore year is lost

i know there is a way to send in your HD to get files recovered but i dont know how to do this

has anyone gone through this before?

I am guessing it's toast. I could be wrong. I have the same problem, I have an older iPod that's water damaged and won't function at all
