I had an unfortunate incident and recently lost an iPhone 7 (damage). I've replaced the phone with an XR and started from scratch in iTunes with the new phone, and have a backup. Meaning, I didn't 'restore' the new phone with the old backup from the 7.

I also have a backup of the old phone in iTunes, and, I still have the SIM card from the damaged phone.

What I'm hoping to find help with is retrieving some photos I had on the old phone. I haven't any clue where to look in the 'backup file' that still exists via iTunes, and I also don't know if there's a way to retrieve the photos from the SIM card.

Is it as simple as putting the old SIM card in my new phone and retrieving the data? Would the pictures be stored 'somewhere' on my Mac, since I have a backup file?

Sorry if these are elementary q's but I've simply never been up against this b/f and do not want to inadvertently screw something up, and more importantly, would like to retrieve the photos if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.
