Recovering Moved Files

So i have a 1TB external drive that I formatted to FAT-32, I realized i wanted to move some files that were larger than 4GB so I again formatted it to ExFAT. I then moved over my files to it. When i plug it into my windows XP system (that reads other ExFat formatted disks just fine), it would cause it to hang. So i plugged it back into my mac, and it tells me that the disk is not initialized. A windows 7 system reads the disk as RAW format. Is there any way I can get the files from either my Mac's disk or the external disk? I am running 10.6.7 and have not written any other files to the disc since. Maybe i can rebuild or repair the file table on the external drive or something?

I used file salvage to scan and It found a bunch of files but theres no directory structure or file names, and it found thousands of photos, gonna be hard to find the ones I need.
