Recovering photos from itouch

I have a black macbook which had the Hard Drive crash (clicking). I had fortunately left all of the photos from my trip overseas on my first generation itouch. Now that I have installed a new hard drive in my macbook, I would like to retrieve my photos. I understand the itouch does not act as an external HD, so I can't enable disk use like on my nano. how do I retrieve the photos back on to my laptop?
