Hi
I have an iMac with 1TB hard drive, and a 1TB Time Capsule. I had a full image of my iMac on the Time Capsule, which I deleted through Finder. I still have the Sam's iMac.sparsebundle on the Time Capsule, and that file still appears to be taking up space on the Time Capsule (since the TC has only 195GB spare space). I am not sure how deleted this file is, but it is obviously not completely gone.
I booted my iMac from the recovery media (10.6.4) and used the Erase option with "Do not erase data" set in the security options (so it was not overwritten). I then remembered that I had deleted my backup on the Time Capsule, making me feel really stupid. I had lost all my data as far as I could see. Since doing this, the Mac has remained Off and I have not re-installed OSX.
I did attempt to restore the system using the TimeCapsule backup, using the option that I get from booting from the disk, however though that showed a backup set was available for the iMac, when I double clicked it, no backups were available at any data for that Mac.
I then used the program BackupLoupe on my networked MacBook Air to try and view the files in the backup on the Time Capsule from the iMac. This, again, found a iMac backup had been present but couldn't see any individual backups or any data in it.
Is there some software that I can run from my Air to treat the iMac as an external drive or something and simply recover the entire system from the internal drive since the data was not overwritten? Or any other method? I was looking briefly at:
http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
but am not sure if it's any good.
Please get back to me - The iMac had all my family photos on it, and a significant amount of code for an App I am working on.
After this, I am deffinately buying offside backup.
Thanks so much in advanced- you guys are lifesavers.
Sam
