I had set up a dual boot with Linux. I shrunk the main partition and created 3 for Linux (swap, root, home). I decided to get rid of the dual boot and I removed all of the Linux partitions.

When I booted back into OS X Yosemite, the Recovery partition is showing up directly under the main partition. I cannot reclaim the space for the Macintosh HD without creating another partition.

Would I be able to copy / backup the recovery partition, reclaim all of the space, and restore it? I'm not sure where it usually resides (i.e. beginning of disk, end of disk, other) It's usually hidden in Disk Utility. I had used rEFInd to set up Linux, could that be the culprit?

I had tried doing a full system restore from Time Machine backup, but it just used the resized Macintosh HD partition.

I'm hesitant to completely wipe the drive without knowing if the Recovery partition can be restored. I don't want to be left in the lurch if something happens to the system.

[edit] I figured out what happened. (though not how) For some reason there were 2 Recovery HD partitions. I used the command line version of diskutil to verify the correct partition and then I erased and removed it. I was then able to reclaim the full space for Macintosh HD.
