So, this Monday my new SATA card came in (thanks @bunnspecial).
But I wasn't able to get to it until after 8pm.
And…I spent the next four days transferring files. At first I assumed it was USB 1.1 that made it so slow, but once everything finally got copied (to my desktop and not where I want it originally) I started moving things around.
I discovered that the third SATA drive was only writing at 1mb or less while read speeds were where I expected them to be.
I assumed this to be because this was a laptop drive, but it didn't make sense that it would read that fast but write so slow.
So today my intent was to replace the data cable. My research was pointing at that and it was a simple fix. I replaced all three cables just to be thorough.
And it was the data cable. Brand new cable and it was defective. As soon as I swapped it out everything was fine.
Another irritant happened today too. Periodically my main acrylic Cinema Display decides that it does not want to light the backlight on the bottom, so the light flashes. I've figured out that pulling the connector and power can force it back, but it was having none of that this morning. Finally, after so many tries I did one last Hail Mary and this time it stuck! Backlight is back on!
So, now everything is back the way it should be!
Hoping to see @harrymatic's video card some time soon to replace the Radeon 9800 Pro.
