I copied a block of text from a website and pasted it on Pages. A copy of the text appeared at the top of the page and another one at the bottom, both framed by rectangles. When I deleted the text the rectangles (narrower) remained and I couldn't delete them. When I started on a new blank page the same rectangles appeared at the top and bottom. What are they and how can I get rid of them?

I wonder if it is a header setting. I can undo it in the Inspector, but how can I undo it permanently?

Open a new document and set it up not to have Headers or Footers. From the File menu choose Save As Template, then in Preferences choose to have that template as your standard document.
