This is an issue that has been bugging me for quite some time, even in Sierra. And it just happened again with High Sierra, so it appears is not OS related, but I'll share it here all the same.
When I'm at my desk, I use a Caldigit TB3 dock, which has a HDMI out to one of my monitors (HP ZR2440w), and I use a USB-C (TB3) to HDMI adapter connected to the TB3 port of the dock for the second monitor (same model).
When I finish working, I usually eject all my drives and put the computer to sleep. Then I go home.
When I open the lid at home, everything looks normal, it asks for my fingerprint to login, but the screen is completely black. If I try to close and re-open the lid, same thing. I can even lock it back using the Touch Bar, and re-login, and the same issue. The only way to make it work is by hard resetting, or using spotlight (blindly) to run terminal, then issue a sudo reboot, and the password. But even sometimes that didn't work either (can't see anything, so I don't really know if I'm typing correctly).
Any ideas how can I fix that? Should I simply shutdown the computer when I finish? Seems odd to me.
Thanks
