I've had three iPhones so far. All of them have had three very faint red dots to the left of the speakerpiece about the screen. What do these do?
 
sensors, one of them is to turn off the display when you put the phone up to your ear. I dont remember what the other one was.

EDIT- Oh! Those things, yeah they are sensors.
 
haha i remember when i got my touch and was horrified when i saw the sensor dot, quickly learned what it was. thank goodness i got my iphone after or else i'd have been pissed at the 3 dots
 
sensors, one of them is to turn off the display when you put the phone up to your ear. I dont remember what the other one was.

2 of them are proximity sensors. (turns off the display when held up to face) cause you know, 2 is always better than 1 ;)
1 of them is an ambient light sensor to adjust the displays brightness depending on it's environment.
