My MacBookPro 15" 5.3 worked fine until today,
All the blacks (rgb 0,0,0) on the screen become red stripes.
When I boot into Linux or Windows the same problem appears,
so it's probably a hardware problem.
I have no expensive adaptor to connect to an external lcd screen,
so I don't know yet if the problem is in the mac screen or in the cabling or somewhere else...

Here are 2 screenshots of black squares a drawed in Illustrator,
one taken on the mac (cmd + shift + 3)
one taken with a camera (where you can see the red lines)

Anyone has the same problem?
And knows exactly what the problem is?
I want to avoid the MacStore as I want to avoid missing my laptop for a month...

Thanks!

Looks like the graphics card...was this on the 9600?

FWIW I had distorted scrolling on my 9600 and needed a new board; my MBP was built in week 46 of 2008, but when they tested the displayport at the store, the logic board showed a build date of week 25, 2008, meaning they were still churning out defective 8600s at that time...there's been speculation that since the 9600 is just a die shrink of the 8600, that the early 9600s may have used the same defective substrate. Although your machine is a 5,3, it's possible the logic board was made way earlier and if this was under the 9600 it wouldn't surprise me...quite a few have had 9600 failures.

9600 Gt

this is indeed on the 9600,
did you have the same problem with the blacks,
which are overlayed by red scrolling vertical lines?

so you think the problem lays with the logic board,
can I test this in a way?

No, I didn't have your problem, I just had really distorted scrolling for a couple minutes (I'm too lazy to find my thread now but if you search my username you'll see it from about a month ago or less). I took a screenshot so when I showed the genius he just took one look and said, "Yep, graphics card."

So far the new one is perfect.

back to black

the weirdest thing happened today,
I put on my mac,
and the red lines are black again!

did Jebus fixed the problem
or will it come back when my warranty period is over?
