I searched the forum and I couldn't find anything so I posted a thread ...

Could anyone explain redirecting a URL this exactly works. Well here's my situation. I'm going to make my site at the .com address and I can get the .net address for under $10 per year. I understand that you type in the .net address and then it moves it to the .com address, but how do I get it to do this. Is there a special hosting plan or something, because I've seen people do this and I know they're not payng $10 a month for a transfer. Any recommendation on plans or how to this in general.

You may be able to do it with your hosting plan too. My hosting plans have functionality called parked domains. So I can park 3 domains into one account..so if someone types in domain2.com or domain3.com it will display the master account and mask the domain to whichever you typed in.

Is this it:

Point External Domains:50

When you click on it this is what comes up:

Point External Domains:
You may point fifty (50) external domains to the Network Solutions hosting package. For example janesbagels.com can point to def123.com.

It sounds right, but I'm just making sure.

yup, thats it.

I use masking for my site. I get 1gb of free webspace off my university's server because i'm a new media major. but the address is huge (http://cordova.asap.um.maine.edu/~raymondj/whatever.thml) so i just have www.thatraymond.com and thatraymond.com forward to that long addy but its masked so that you always see thatraymond.com Works great btw.

Thanks for the example. It's really helpful to see it actually working. Just curious, who hosts the masking for you.

Well you have to buy the domain name from the registrar, but I use zoneedit.com to change my zones/forwards etc. Its free and works amazingly well.

Alright. Thanks. I was just curious who provided your service. Not sure if I phrased the questions right, but at least I got an answer.
