Redsn0w 0.9.5 will not open on Mac OS X

Okay, so I updated my iPhone 3G to 4.0.1 and it got restored. I followed a tutorial and downloaded redsn0w 0.9.5 but my mac (OS X 10.4.11) refuses to open it. I tried downloading earlier versions of it (0.7.2) and those I can open but it doesn't recognize both 4.0 and 4.0.1 ipsw files.

According to the application info 0.9.5 is intel based, not universal, so maybe that's why? If so, is it possible for me to find a universal based version of it? Or will I have to do this on a windows computer?

No, Redsn0w runs on your computer, but I think the newest versions are Intell platform only, not PPC.

And you need the newest for 4.x.x firmware.

Okay, knew the other post was kinda iffy but what can I do now?

I switched to a Windows 7 PC on a AMD processor, redsn0w works fine but now the computer doesn't recognize my iPhone. It only shows up briefly as an Apple Mobile Device under Device and Printers before it gets "disconnected". I've restarted my computer, reinstalled iTunes, and turned off/on my phone several times - nothing works! I tested a flashdrive and the computer recognizes that and the USB cable for my iPhone works on my Mac.

This may be unrelated but I have a number of important updates for the computer that have failed to install properly. I've looked up some

Any help is greatly appreciated : )
 
my friend had this problem with his ipod touch. he said he just redid the ipod and it worked. (the part about not connecting onto iTunes)

Could you be more specific? It's not only iTunes, my windows computer can only recognize it for a few seconds before it gets disconnected.

This may be too broad but what I need are SPECIFIC directions on how to unlock/jailbreak my iPhone 3G after i updated/restored to 4.0.1 and possible reasons why redsn0w 0.9.5 won't work on my Mac OS X. Alternate methods are also welcome, I'm getting a bit desperate now.

well, my friend bought had an ipod touch with OS 4. he JAILBROKE it but when i tried to show him how to use app sync and etc, he said his ipod is not showing up. so he went on bootcamp and said it worked on windows. then i told him what you going to do? he said he going to restore his ipod then jailbreak it again. asekd him the next day and he said it works fine now
