Is anyone else having this problem? I'm trying to jailbreak my wife's 3Gs iOS 5.0 with the old bootrom and install the iPad baseband so I can unlock it, but redsn0w just sits on the 'fetching iPad baseband' for a long period of time before giving an error message and shutting down. I was able to do a basic jailbreak without a problem, but it is the whole fetching iPad baseband that is not working. Any ideas? I've tried from 2 different macs.

Are you using the newest Redsn0w ?
If so, try 10b5 or 10b5c
Make sure you have an Internet connection

I'm in the process of updating to a custom NO BB iOS 5.1 now, so would that still be the case? Would the older Redsn0w still work for 5.1?

I do have an internet connection, but somehow I still think the problem has to do with the internet somehow.

If you are going to 5.1, use the newest

Make sure and reboot the computer and phone before trying again
You do know the jailbreak and installing the iPad baseband cannot be done at the same time, you must run Redsn0w a 2nd time, uncheck install Cydia

That may be my problem then. I was trying to do it all in one process. I'll try again without doing the iPad baseband then rejailbreak it doing the baseband and no Cydia. Hopefully that is what my issue has been. THANKS!

Well, unfortunately that isn't my problem. I did the jailbreak and am now trying to run Redsn0w again to install the iPad baseband and it is still just sitting there on "Fetching iPad baseband files (please be patient)..." I've tried it on 2 different macs using 2 different internet connections and getting the same issue on both of them. I'm going to try a windows PC next and see if that solves it. This is frustrating and has wasted way more time than I planned for :( I wish it were illegal for cell phone companies to lock phones to a specific provider!

Apple has been selling factory unlocked iphones in the u.s. for 9 months now.

I am aware of that fact because I just purchased an unlocked iPhone 4s from Apple. It is just frustrating to have to either jump through all kinds of hoops to try to get a phone that is still in perfect working order to work on another service. That is why I paid the extra bucks to buy an unlocked one this time and will probably never buy a locked iPhone again.

After trying multiple things I was finally able to get sn0wbreeze to download the iPad baseband since redsn0w wasn't wanting to do it, so I created a custom IPSW with the iPad baseband on it. I then installed that from iTunes, installed ultrasn0w and wasn't getting my sim to be recognized. I ended up rejailbreaking with redsn0w and finally it started recognizing any sim that I put in the phone. Thanks for any pointers you gave, because it helped me keep at it even if it took much longer than it should have to make it work.
