Hello everyone, I am a mathematics professor and I have been using a Canon HF100 and FCP to make some Calculus Videos for my students. I have upgraded my computer and bought several large hard drives but although I love the quality that the camera provides, I am hoping to reduce the file size on import. The problem is that no matter what setting I choose on the camera, even the lowest setting, when I import the files into FCP it has a data rate of approx 130 mbit/s. This filled up my new hard drives that I bought fairly quickly and even though I am buying some more hard drives I wonder if this can be avoided by lowering the quality of the initial footage some. Is there a setting I can change? Right now it is importing it in "Apple ProRes 422". Any ideas?
Also, can I compress the files I have already imported into another format that might save me some space? Any suggestions?
I just tried the settings and it lets me import to AIC which reduces the file size by half. Can I safely convert all of my old footage to this format to save space?
