My Apple TV sits on a wood shelf behind a glass door in my home entertainment center. The back is partly open. I am considering doing something to lift up the Apple TV an inch or so to help reduce its temperature. Will this help? I would appreciate alternatives from anyone who has done this. Thanks.

Does it actually get warm? I've got one hidden in an entertainment center as well and it doesn't even get slightly warm

Mine never gets warm. However, if you put any device in a closed cabinet with other electronic devices, the total heat in that cabinet compartment likely will go up, especially if it houses many devices. If heat is a real, rather than perceived, issue, then perhaps buy a cheap computer desktop fan and install it in the back of the cabinet to vent the heat outward.

The last time I had heat issues within a home entertainment cabinet was when I still had cable and the cable box/DVR would get pretty warm. But I’ve never had any issues with Apple TVs, Fire TVs, or Rokus getting warm.

You never let any electronic device in enclosed place! The should be well ventilated place in Entreatment racks! Those enclosed 1970s cabinets need to retired!

Thanks Captain Obvious. That is pretty much what I already state...

I checked my AppleTV 4k gen 1 with 'instruments' because the case was hot to the touch. While 'Fair' isn't cause for alarm it is a bit concerning when its what I found immediately and all it was doing was playing videos as per its design. Next step after fair is 'Serious'.

I disassembled it thinking the fan would be for of dust but it looked spotless. What I ended up doing was 3D printing a little stand to elevate it so it wasn't on a hot surface drawing in air. Its 'seemed' to have helped but I haven't monitored it too closely since....
