In setting up my new iPhone 4S mailboxes, I have settings set to hold only 50 emails at a time. But I tried starting fresh with an empty mailbox on one of my accounts, but as fast as I could delete the emails, the box kept filling up with old mail (still on my gmail server).

Is there any way to really empty the inbox of one account?

Thanks.

Oh, dear. I just checked my gmail from my computer, and all those emails I deleted from my phone are now gone from the gmail server! I do not have iCloud on this macbook pro yet so there was no syncing.

When using my old Palm Pre, I could delete emails from my phone but it did not affect my main computer accessed email!
