So like a lot of people, I was a bit disappointed to not see the Mac Mini get an update today.

However.. I did catch a curious mention of a "Mac Pro Mini' on the YouTube video for the event stream, in the video description. It summarizes the event as:
"Apple — October 18 , Special Event - New Accessories, Redesigned Macbook, Airpods and Mac Pro Mini"

I wonder if it maybe got postponed last minute?

Edited... Nevermind realized it is not the official youtube channel of Apple.

Silent release soon?

Possible. I was only really sure a new MM was coming today as it made sense. Just like there is now no longer any intel based MBP devices I expected they would use this event to eliminate the last intel MM. But then there are still all those intel iMacs still being sold.

One more event to cover the remaining intel iMac and intel Mac Mini in the future.

I am more convinced that the real issue is chip shortages. There is no reason for them to delay removing intel from the line-up completely, it is in their interests to get it done asap.

*EDIT* Ordered an M1 Max, but I cancelled.

I was hoping for a mini, but now I’ll wait for the Cube type thing.

I was waiting for the Mac Mini. Others waited too: The Constant Geekery Post-Event reaction had a thought of a release in november and last moment change of plans was mentioned from someone because there was alot of time in the October Event, which was kind of filling in, and there was place for a Mac Mini.

I do not have a need for a Macbook. So I might be holding out until Black Friday to see of there will be a 2020 Mac Mini Pro chip machine. But I do not need a Macbook Pro.

Also for others. Better buy a used Mac Mini M1 this year, and wait until M2 :) I do not really need a pro now, and I did not expect that reaction with myself.

I was pretty disappointed with no Mini update. I'd buy the M1 now, but it maxes out at 16GB - My current iMac has 32 gigs because I regularly USE anywhere from 16-20 on average with the apps I use (Garageband, Photoshop, lots of tabs in browser, etc.)

I may pull the trigger this weekend anyway - my Mac is starting to lag in areas, and having a fast machine again would be really nice.

Planning on turning the current iMac into a Linux desktop.

If we think about it logically, now they could actually just silently add a spec upgrade option to the existing mini with some of the chips that were released today.

No event needed because the case would be identical and it would just be BTO options

What would be the reason for not announcing a Mac Mini with M1 Pro or M1 Max? Chip shortage? Take away some focus from the MacBooks?

The only reason mentioned is that they are not finished produced yet because of shortage. And may drop in in november, december, january…

And adding my thoughts: we do not know if Apple wants to make them.
Further my thoughts, we do not know if Apple want, but has changed their mind because of shortage and priority.
