So, you know how Cornica sets out to preserve QuickTime movies for consumption on old hardware, especially for late 68k and early PPC systems? Well, as they were such a significant part of browsing the 2000s Web (just as QuickTime movies were during the turn of the millennium), I wanted to do the same for Flash games, while at the same time adding to our ever-expanding list of New Old Websites, that in addition (hopefully) takes you for a serious trip down memory lane. Effectively a Cornica equivalent for late PPC and early Intel systems, if you will. :)

Presenting reFlash, a site that sets out to do just that, while also vaguely resembling something out of apple.com in 2004:

All embedded Flash games are pre-tweaked for high performance, and webpages are kept to a featherweight size to limit ambient load to a minimum. - Plus, reFlash is completely JavaScript-free. As a result, all games currently available play quite smoothly on my 1.25 GHz G4 through Safari 4 with Flash 10.0.

If desired, further information can be found within reFlash's News and About sections. Please bear in mind though that the site is still in an open beta phase, so certain elements of the general user experience are for the moment slightly unfinished (as the above screenshot demonstrates so wonderfully); I just really wanted to get this out and available while it was Friday night ... and even then it was still several hours late to debut.

But if that doesn't deter you, then by all means, have fun! :)

assuming we are all still alive - You have point here, but we must not say it here :)

After a long period of silence, reFlash has finally been revived again for the new year.

To briefly summarize, here's what's new:

- 4 new games, and 6 new videos

- A new page location dedicated to providing handy game tips and tricks

- A slightly modified website layout that is now better optimized for low resolution displays

- Other minor tweaks, changes, and improvements to make for a better playing and viewing experience

Additional information is available in our News section.

Moreover, I've been thinking about where to take the site in the future, and one of my ideas was to employ a 'Time Machine Aspect' of sorts, that will use a multifaceted approach to effectively transport the visitor to different time periods of their choice when viewing different pieces of media. A little bit more like Cornica in spirit if you will, but this time around through a much more immersive fashion - almost as if you merged it together with the Wayback Machine.

Not only that, but if the site's scope of content continues to grow at this rate, and if more audiences come to visit, there is a small chance that we will definitely expand to a custom domain (also like Cornica) in response probably sometime during this year.

And after that, who knows? The sky is the limit!

What say you, random onlookers?
