everytime i try to reformat my macbook pro my screen just goes black

i hold down c at start up it stays at the apple screen for like 5 min then just goes black. the computers still on but is doing nothing please help!

I don't understand the problem. You want to format your computer and reinstall Mac OS X from scratch. However, when you tell your computer to boot from the OS X install disc, you're just presented a black screen. Is that correct?

Why do you want to format your computer anyway?

if you dont put in the install cd nothing will happen, try being more specific.

I'm just curious to know if he's formatting his computer due to a problem that he may have come across. It could be a problem that's related to his black screen problem.

reason

if the disc is not in my mac just boots up no issues.. its having the disc in and holding down c that does it..
im doing to have a fresh start\

PLEASE HELP!!!

Have you tried anything to correct the problem so far, such as repair disk permissions permissions or resetting the PVRAM, etc?
