Reformatting a Mac...

I know how to reformat OS X, but here's where it gets tricky. Is there an easy way for me to backup my entire harddrive to an external drive or something similar beforehand?

Yup, several disk cloning options exist. Super Duper is one which is very popular, and though i dont use it myself, i have heard a lot of good things about it.

Carbon Copy Cloner works great too, have had plenty of use with that.

Sounds like good options. I'm seriously starting to think things are wrong with this installation of OS X.
