hi guys,

i have an ancient 12" powerbook with a dvd that's been stuck for years now. i think it will never come out. tried sticking things in the slot as a last ditch resort and that didn't even work. this method i got from a youtube video, which worked for that person but not for me.

i am really waiting for it to die. just kidding. i want it to LIVE! the reason why is because it is my first mac and has sentimental values, including dents and warped aluminiums to show for it. besides the stuck dvd--everything works. so, i was thinking that down the road that if it does die that i can revive it and the only way to do that would be to have access to the dvd drive. So, i can either, a) open it up and take out the combo drive and disassemble that to dislodge the dvd (super hard to do which i learned when i took apart the powerbook and decided not to go any further when i realized that taking out the combo drive drove the complexity scale to 100); or, b) get an external dvd drive.

so, my question is, "can i reinstall/reformat OS X with an external dvd drive?"
