Reformatting using SNOW LEOPARD on USB drive, getting kernal panic?

Hey I have used this thumb drives on other macs and it works fine to do a full restore for snow, but when I am using it on my sisters white macbook unibody 2.4 ghz I am getting the gray kernal panic restart your computer error, the machine starts up and works fine, what can this be?
