I'd like to refresh my MBP 2009 17" (Core 2 duo, 2.66 GHz). I'm upgrading the RAM to 8 GB and I was thinking of putting in an SSD. Are there any restrictions as to the specs? I recently put two Samsung 840 pros in a new Mac mini, using the OWC kit, and it flies - how do I find out what will work in my MBP or not?

And could anyone give me their experience upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard? If I upgrade only, without doing a fresh install, will everything remain in place and apps will still "just work"?

Lastly, is it better to clone my HD to the new SSD, and then perform the upgrade on that disk, or perform the upgrade on the old HD first and then clone the whole thing, including the upgraded OS, onto the new SSD?
