I have a dilemma - should I go for this iMac, or the higher end 21.5 inch 2011 model? This one has everything I'd want (1gb graphics card - 1tb hard drive - massive screen for multitasking while doing homework) at a much more reasonable price. The only question is whether or not the new one would hive me a much higher boost in performance to consider passing this up. The most intensive thing I'd do besides running a massive iTunes library would be play Starcraft 2, does it run at high settings well? What would be the advantage of going for the newer machine over this one on terms of what I would be using it for? Thank you!

PS: if I do go for the new one, is it worth the additiOnal cost for the i7 for me? Thanks for the help agaIn!

link's dead, guess they sold out fast - anyways it was the higher end 27 inch 2010 model i5. can anyone help?

I'm pretty sure the 2.5GHz quad-core i5 in the base 2011 iMac is better than the 2.8GHz i5 in the high end 2010 model. Also, the 6750M 512MB at 1920x1080 should outperform the 5850M 1GB at 2560x1440.

Also, I recommend buying RAM from a third party and not from Apple.

macsales has 16GB kits for only $200. Also anything from this generation will beat a non i7 from 2010.

I asked this question myself. There was a Refurb 2010 27" on the UK store for 1049, and the new iMac base model comes in at 999.

In the end I chose the new 21.5". It has the same horizontal res as my old 24" LCD so I don't lose anything in terms of window space. It's also getting a geekbench of 7300 stock! Pretty awesome.

Here, I wrote a review:
