Hi All,

This is half a question, but half an awareness thing to anyone looking to buy a 2nd hand mac.

I bought an ex-rental iBook and it was all happy and great, superb value, unfortunatly wont play any DVD movies because the previous renter (bozo) has locked the region to one, and as a Brit my DVDs are region 2!

So bear that in mind anyone thinking ebay/ex-rental, and if anyone has a solution, that may be amazing (Ive tried VLC but that seems quite unstable on my ibook) !

here is some info
It is legally gray, as the poster there said.

The other threads asking about region-free say to just watch unsing VideoLan. '

I use VLC all the time. What is happening on your computer? Maybe it is something fixable?

Can't you use something like MacTheRipper to make a new Region 2 DVD? Sure, it's time-consuming, but perhaps possible.

Unless, of course, you only have a combo drive, in which case it won't help.

But it would be interesting to know if Apple checks refurbs for region locking before shipping them out (I know this wasn't from Apple, but still).
