is everything!
I thought this was interesting...

I've purchased a lot of refurb apple products over the years and they have always shipped from PA or CA. I thought I would take advantage of the extra discounts on the refurb iPad's apple gave this week, only to find out they're shipping from China.

Seems odd they would ship the units back to China to be refurbed..

I'll bet you a dollar to a doughnut these are brand spanking new units that Apple has a surplus on. That's the only way to explain it. Sony does this occasionally through their outlet store. Some of the stuff I've purchased from Sony came in a brown box but it was new.

the 16GB WiFi refurb I ordered earlier this week is coming from China also. I thought it was interesting. All my MBPs have been refurbs and I've never had any problems with them and always ship from CA.

Do you really think they are new units? If so...is that a sign they're trying to sell these out in anticipation for the new model coming sooner than later? Or is that a stretch?

Probably just more expedient. They're likely factory units that didn't make the cut and needed to be "refurbished."

I am on the fence with getting one of the refurb models. I want to take advantage of the free engraving that the apple store offers, but that is not available on a refurb.
The ONLY reason Apple offers free engraving is so you can't return it. You'll have a better resale value on a non-engraved model.

I find it hard to believe they would ship them all the way back to china. There has got to be some kind of warehouse here in the US by now. I think these are units that didn't pass the rigorous inspections maybe a damaged box b4 shipping or something didn't quite meet the precise specs. And had to be refurbished. But have purchased Apple Refurbs b4 never had a problem.

I have two 16gb wifi refurbs on order and yes, surprised they are shipping from China. Price is nice at 429.

Received mine this morning. Its absolutely flawless! You wont be disappointed!:apple::apple:

Been using it for a couple of hours. No luck finding any flaws in this refurb device!

My refurb arrived today. Sad to say that mine has a speaker problem. I hear loud static when any audio is played. Appt w/ Genius Bar has been scheduled for tomorrow already.

so what happened today at the apple store?

They just exchanged it for another refurb. Everything working wonderfully now. I'm loving this so much. Though, I'm surprised about some of the apps that aren't available for the iPad or are really just made for the iPhone.

Products are never refurbished in the U.S. from what I can tell.

They always get done in China.
