Hello, I am looking for some advice and need it asap.

I have waited a long time to purchase a mac laptop and I took the plunge about two weeks ago and purchased a 13" refurbished Macbook pro for $929.00 + tax ($1011.00) all together. When I took the laptop out of the box I discovered no outer damage and loved the condition, until I turned it on and saw a single dead pixel in the center of the screen staring right back at me.

I was in contact with apple all day sunday and after a trip to the apple store and a 1.5 hour phone call, I decided that my only option is to return the laptop, subsequently buying a new one right from the store or keeping it.

I guess I would like a poll:

Option one (keep refurbished):
Pay $1011.00
13" MBP (Originally released February 2011)
DEAD PIXEL
2.3GHZ
320GB Hard drive

Option two (return & buy new):
Pay $1,196.54 (student discount included)
13" MBP
2.4GHZ
500GB Hard drive

Thanks for your time!!

Apple doesn't offer replacements for a single dead pixel. If it's in a position that annoys you, there's no point in living with it. You could return it and wait for another refurb model, if you don't want to buy new. Of course, there's no guarantee you won't end up with another unit with a dead pixel.
With the millions of subpixels on a display, it is quite possible to have a low number of faulty transistors on an LCD. Therefore, a certain number of subpixel anomalies is considered acceptable. Rejecting all but perfect LCD panels would significantly increase the retail price for products using LCD displays. These factors apply to all manufacturers using LCD technology--not just Apple products.
