I am looking to buy a refurb MBP. The following are on Apple's website as I write:

2.33 C2D/256MB X1600/2G RAM/120G HD $1899

2.2 C2D/128MB 8600GT/2G RAM/120G HD $1699

I will be using the laptop to run CAD applications (ArchiCAD / Revit in Bootcamp / etc...)

My preference is performance over saving $200 bucks. But is there that big of a performance difference between machines?

I'm sure that depending on what you do there is a notable difference, and I suggest that if you have the extra $200 to spare, go for the better model before they are sold out.

Is the new LED screen such a big deal in this pricing situation?
