Yup

Almost missed it. Thought it was old one, till i saw the superdrive in the descipt.

It's tempting. Though I want to wait till June for the new announcements and the ipod student promo.

NEW $949 white mb + ~~$200 ipod/touch~~

Assuming they extend the promo to the WMB... I wouldn't be at all surprised if only the unibody laptops are eligible. That said, you don't suffer from waiting: worst case scenario, you can still get a refurb. :)

I watch the refurb store all the time, and that model MacBook doesn't stay for long. It's definitely the best value for a mac notebook out there.

What about this deal? $799 after rebate for a new one! I will be picking mine up tonight. First mac in the family, for my wife whose XP laptop is prone to picking up viruses.

That's a great deal if you don't mind waiting for the rebate. The refurb is only $50 more - how is Microcenter on their rebates? Do you actually get them, and in a reasonable time? That deal is almost as cheap as I got my Macbook for ($765) - but mine was a previous gen. closeout and open box (10% off). :D

Oh, yeah - you'll LOVE the white Macbook. My wife is crazy about hers!

Hopefully what will make this deal even sweeter is that I am picking up an open box item for $100 less, making it $699 after rebate. I agree rebates are always iffy but I have read about others success with MicroCenter. BTW I found this deal at SlickDeals here.

Regarding the open box MacBook, I plan on checking it out at the store to decide if I will take it home. I planned on showing up with a usb stick with the following programs:

anything else I should do before leaving the store?

thanks!

Their rating stinks. It is hard to get the rebates sometimes with places like them and sometimes macmall.

I have ordered stuff from Macmall before and find a lot of their prices to be good even without the rebate, you just have to make sure that you send everything in perfectly in the right amount of time.

I would trust macmall over a place like microcenter. Although their rating is not great:

Here is a link for a 3% discount at Macmall

agree on the ratings, but fortunately for me MicroCenter has a B&M location near my home so I can go and harass them if there's a problem.

don't mean to hijack this thread, but is there anything else to check when buying an open box Macbook (or refurb for that matter)?

That's already been discussed. Also check fatwallet on that.
I've googled them before, some people have gotten, some not.
It's not worth it to me to take a chance on it.
If you get it, you're only saving $50 from getting it from Apple direct(albeit refurb not new)
If you DON'T get it, you'll have paid the same as a new one from Apple!

It's really your choice, but with the reseller ratings, and the googled bad blood about their fulfilling rebates, I wouldn't do it.

Just bought a refurb of a new white macbook. I used the site above to update me when the Refurb site gets updated, because they would be out of stock of the new one in a few hours.

I went white, because I needed Firewire and I couldn't justify the extra $500-$900 for a MBP (especially since my wife already has one).

Excellent, this site is just what I've been looking for, thanks.

I've just set up an alert for MacBooks on the UK store; I'm after one of the 13.3 inch unibody macbooks. I saw one on the refurb site the other day for only £779, so hopefully another similarly priced one will appear soon!!

FWIW, just wanted to follow up with the fact that I got my $200 rebate check from MicroCenter four weeks after mailing it in and my wife loves the new Macbook! :)
