Hello, well I am in quite a pickle right now, I want to get a MBP to do schoolwork but really I want it to play games but there are some things that bug me, graphics card and reliability.

How good is the 8600 playing new games like COD4, TF2, COD WAW, Left 4 dead?

Will the MBP die on me, I heard the reports about the dying cards and I hope it doesn't affect me.

If anyone can help thank you so much.

UHOH whered they go! no more cheap MBPS!???

there's a chance a early 08 MBP's graphics card will die on you ... but you're covered for 2 years on that. (unless you get AppleCare, then you're covered on everything for 3 years)

I would suggest that you get a BRAND NEW old gen MBP if you want to save money instead of a refurbished one.

It might even be cheaper depending on where you get it. I found them for $600-$700 less in retail & school today.

Clearance or refurbished legacy MBP. If you can afford it, go for the 2.5Ghz model.

I got mine a week ago, and love it.

The thing with apple is their design intoxicates me and for a period I was positive on getting the new one just for design and for the double graphics cards, well I still want the new ones :p.

If there are any of those left on Monday or Tuesday, I think I'm going to order one. I was all set to get the new macbook, but that looks like a better idea.

GET IT.
i just got mine a week or so ago, and wouldn't trade it for the world.
(well..maybe for the world..)

I suggest you grab one of the "old" refurb penryn macbook pros while you still can because i have noticed lately that apple is starting to run low on these models (especially the 2.5ghz model that use to be available quite often). I bought a 2.5ghz penryn mbp and absolutely love it.
