My pretty new iPad 3 was just replaced by a refurb (I'm assuming) today, and it appears to be great quality.

I'd like to pick up a refurb iPad 2 for my boyfriend, but the selection on Apple doesn't have what I'd like (black, 16, wifi). Are they restocked often? What about Internet refurbs, who are those refurbished by?

Thanks!

How do you know it's a refurb? The iPad 3 hasn't been out that long and demand is still very high. Btw I'm typing this on my refurbed iPad 2. :)

If you're going to buy a refurb get it from Apple. They replace the battery, outside covers and fix anything else that's wrong with. The refurbs look absolutely brand new and you get a 1 year warranty from Apple. It also qualifies for Apple Care.

Yes, the refurb site is updated fairly often. I think I remember reading somewhere on here that early and late in the week are when they add the most stock.

Personally, I wouldn't trust refurbs from a site other than Apple. I seriously doubt that others put as much care into refurbing their iPads.

That's not a refurb you got. A refurb would state that in the description and give you the month it went into refurb production.

Check Apple's online refurb stock every 1-2 hours. Kind of annoying but it's good advice. Some days they'll put some up, some days they won't, but when they finally make it up they only last for a few hours until they're sold out again. If you keep checking regularly I'm sure you'll find one within 2-3 days.

They're refurbished in China (presumably by Foxconn) in the same plants they're made. Totally legit and come with the same 1-year warranty as new iPads.

i have one of the iPad 2 refurbs that i bought directly from Apple. it literally looks brand new. you would have absolutely no idea it was refurbished except for the fact that it says refurbished on the white retail box.

i got mine for $319, but i actually end up paying much less. i got a free Amazon Kindle Fire from a local bank of opening up a checking account. i sold it on eBay for $194. after the eBay commission, it ended up getting $179 for the Kindle. so $319 - $179 = $140. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

i would check their website every day around lunch time , can't go wrong with that level of frequency. looks like their restock once a week but it varies on which day

That's a refurb and as I indicated earlier you can usually tell by the DK serial number and the factory indicates refurbished. Actually I would prefer a refurb over new at that point because it basically a new unit that someone probably returned due to OCD and wasn't quite happy with it.

Weird, I got a replacement 4S a few weeks ago and it doesn't say refurb.

It appears that 4S was produced the 1st week in Jan 2012. So far if a device has been refurbed the production date gets modified and the Factory shows Refurbished.

After checking Google, it appears that refurbished iPad 2's began to appear on the Apple site last year in August.

Managed to snag one last night!

Boyfriend now has a new-refurb iPad2 on the way! :D
