This is a gift for my mother, who isn't the most savvy iphone user, but loves the phone. My original thinking is that the 5c in white would suffice. But the refurb 5s also is somewhat enticing.

She is not one to need the latest and greatest (She is upgrading from a a 3Gs).

Is there a reason I should stray from my first thought of getting her the 5c?

Thanks much.

Oh yes, I should have mentioned that the Refurb 5s is $50 and the new 5c is $100

Apple doesn't sell refurbished iPhone directly, so you'd be getting it from a 3rd party like AT&T. What is the warranty on the refurb 5s? How about physical condition?

I'd actually be inclined to go with the 5c in this case.

yeah well if it uses the original buyer's warranty, it could be expired in september of this year

If they're being refurbished and then sold, Apple isn't doing the refurbishing. Apple may not honor the warranty.

If Apple isn't doing the refurbishing, then there's no real refurbishing so there's probably still the original warranty

Service can be performed on a phone by a 3rd party. Apple just doesn't honor the warranty if you go that route. I don't know what kind of service centers are being used in this situation, so really anything is a possibility.

I think a 5c looks and feels better.

Also since Apple doesn't sell refurbished phones, I assume this from a third-party; another reason to buy the iPhone 5c.
