Refurbished Apple Cinema Display

Why are the apple cinema displays so heavily discounted? i.e. 20 in display is 499 rather than 1299 and the 30 in display is 1499 rather than 3299 besides the fact they are refurbished? That is quite the difference!!

Because current actual retail of the 20" is $599 and for the 30" it is $1799. Those must be the prices those 2 displays debuted at when they were first introduced. Decent deals on the refurbs but certainly not as amazing as those prices would seem to indicate.
