Seemed a good deal so bought it tonight :) from apple site

Never had one before but feel I need one for work and I have no current computer...Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Any favourite apps you use?

Congrats on your purchase. For the Apps it really just depends on what you are trying to do. But some of my fav apps (free and paid) are: FireFox, VLC, Skype, MDRP, Pavtube Magic, OpenOffice, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, TeamViewer, Parallels, Steam, Battlenet, GameRanger, HandBrake, Kindle, Mactracker, Malwarebytes. Along with all the Apple included apps lol.

8GB memory and 128GB storage

Thanks for that Cuniac..tempted to get handbrake I hear it's simple enough to do

Just a friendly word of advice. If you plan on using handbrake quite a bit then I advise you use an external hard drive for extra storage because you might find that you fill that 128GB quite fast.

Same machine I have - love it. Switched from 2014 15 with 750 GT
f.lux - screen temperature manager
DaisyDisk - handy to see what is using my storage
Tweetbot
PathFinder
The usual business suspects:
OmniGraffle, OmniPlan, OmniFocus
BusyCal, BusyContacts
Dropbox, Word, Excel - but Keynote much better than PowerPoint.

MalwareBytes as mentioned above.
Avoid apps that promise to "clean" like the scam MacKeeper.
(I stopped reading Cult of Mac when they promoted and defended MacKeeper)

I cover it with BestSkinsEver - protects against scuffs and dings.

Congrats. I think you will love it and wonder why you didn't buy one sooner. I have the 2.9Ghz/512GB SSD/8GB RAM model which goes for £1189 on the refurb store. Luckily I got it for just £10 more brand new using student discount and an included three year warranty that goes with higher education student discount purchases. I am actually surprised they have appeared so early on the refurb store. Normally it takes at least 6 months.
