Well I got my first mac about a month or so: the Aluminum 24" iMac
and i also have a IBM T-40 and i cant stand working on it anymore! Windows sucks! its unbelievable what iv'e been dealing with for my entire life!
so i want to get the cheapest macbook and i spent all my money on the iMac..
so this is why im thinking about a Refurbished macbook do you think i should do it or try and find one in craiglist or somthing?

you could try to find something on ebay or whatever... or you can also get the student BTS deal an sell all the free goodies you get

2.1 mb = $999 - $250 (iPod Touch) - $50 (printer) = $700 + tax

im not a student and i live in israel but im coming to the us in october..

Actually tax is applied to 999 + 250 + 50 = 1,299 (1390 est 7%) then - the rebates :D

Your telling me they are taxing you for something you didn't pay for?

They charge $999 for the computer, then add tax, then the free gifts. They can't tax you for free gifts surely?

whether or not you paid for the merchandise isn't the question - it is technically sales AND use tax. When you go shopping for clothes buy something that is buy one get one free and check your receipt. It will be just as I described.

The state is taxing you, NOT Apple.

well they aren't really free gifts, you have to pay for them, then you get rebates... so in the initial transaction, you pay the sales tax.

Never heard of Apple tax? :p

Ah I see. Yeah it doesn't work like that here.

Let's say you win a FREE (no rebates or anything {even though it doesn't make a difference}, just straight up) car. You have to pay tax on that as well.

Thats rather crap.

That's federal, you'd have to refer to your state's department of revenue website for more info

It's easier to get away with it or not notice with smaller items. But bigger things would be harder to dodge, that was my point. But how about this, anyone who has bought a computer and ipod can scan it on here.

A sincere apology to the OP for flooding this thread off topic :)
